Its primary mandate is to promote and strengthen industrial R&D by supporting in-house R&D units, facilitating technology development, absorption, and transfer, and encouraging start-ups and MSMEs through various technology-driven initiatives. DSIR operates several flagship programs to achieve these goals, including the Public Sector R&D Support, Technology Development and Innovation Programme (TDIP), Industrial R&D Promotion Programme (IRDPP), Technopreneur Promotion Programme (TePP), and Access to Knowledge for Technology Development and Dissemination (A2K+).
